TELL YOUR FRIENDS

There are four things, yes four, which need your kind attention this week. Especially if you enjoy the cosy consumption of film and tv and indeed the business of it. Let’s dive in shall we? Long and short of it:

1) Its London Film Festival next month, which means it’s RecDek House London next month (17th October) which means if you have a short film you’d be interested in screening at our event - submit it immediately (except, that is, if you’ve submitted for previous year) submit at: https://www.recdekhouse.com/.

And if you’d like to sponsor the London edition, hit me up by way of reply.

2) But before that, we have events THIS week (25th) and next week (2nd). Our friends at Sapience and LIVEOMAN are hosting some rather bouji gatherings for a wide range of media and finance folk, in some rather trendy parts of London-town. If you’re pushing a project right now, make sure you get involved, you never know who you’ll meet, this ones for Full Members, sign up at: https://www.recdekhouse.com/.

3) RecDek House Member Izzy Mant (Peep Show, Cuckoo, Trying and Producer of many more fab shows) is shooting her debut comedy short HOW TO DO A KIDNAP. It’s rather good and she’s got a Crowdfunding going for the November shoot. Would you like to help get this project off the ground? Would you like a piece of the pie? Give a little, a lot, or something, the pie will be deliciously funny.

Oh also Izzy chooses our pick of the week today! (see the blue box below).

4) We’re planning our TVOD platform. THE DRIVE-IN will be a place for indie films to live where the filmmaker keeps their IP, their revenue, their data, and so much more. We are currently taking submissions from filmmakers interested in having their work at the Drive-In. Head to The Drive-In tab at: https://www.recdekhouse.com/.

Now, for all the full details on all of the above, and Izzy’s pick of the week, one hundred per cent carry on reading...

RecDek House London

RecDek House London is approaching, so send us your short film! Are you a filmmaker with a short that you’d like us to consider for screening? Head to https://www.recdekhouse.com/ to submit.

The London Edition marks Autumn’s arrival and shall be chocka full of warming fireside chats (no actual fire), a glass of red no doubt, (or whatever your tipple), and the latest and greatest short films our community has to offer.

Date for your diaries: 17th October. RSVP will be going live next week.

If you’re a company that would be interested in sponsoring our event let me know by way of reply here.

Partner events this week

Our friends over at Sapience Communications and LIVEOMAN are hosting some delightful events this week (25th) and next (2nd) at Annabel’s, Kensington Roof Gardens and Maison Estelle. The gatherings will bring together a select group of investors, entrepreneurs and decision-makers, covering tech, media, film, finance and property.

If you’d like to attend you can join RecDek House membership at https://www.recdekhouse.com/.

Contribute to a comedy short

Some community news! Double BAFTA-winning comedy producer turned writer-director Izzy Mant is shooting a comedy-thriller short film HOW TO DO A KIDNAP in November. She and her team are crowdfunding to fill a finance gap. Producer / EP credits are available at the higher levels, as well as screening / premiere invites, early access and credits on IMDb.

Content creator OllieStreams has arranged to get himself fake-kidnapped for likes. But when the three young people doing the kidnap arrive, they realise something’s gone horribly wrong...

HOW TO DO A KIDNAP is an entertaining, edge-of-your-seat comedy-thriller. It's got a cast of eight, stunts, and will be shot with top DOP Greg Duffiled.

The lead role, Ollie, will be played by Christian Brighty, creator & star of the Radio 4 series The Many Wrongs of Lord Christian Brighty. He’s the internet’s viral answer to Mr Darcy. Other cast includes Gareth Tunley, known to cult comedy fans as music producer Gog in series 2 of Peep Show (Izzy was the producer of Series 5 of Peep Show).

It's a chance to help kick-start the career of a new director. Izzy started out directing theatre, live comedy and radio plays before her twelve year diversion into TV comedy producing, and she's bringing all that experience to bear for this passion project. Would absolutely love the RecDek community to get involved.

Our TVOD platform - the Drive-In

The RecDek Drive-In will be a place for filmmakers to monetise their own content. A place where filmmakers can send audiences to watch their work, Producers can understand watching habits, get paid from first revenue, retain their IP and much more.

Our plans are fast afoot. If you’d be interested in launching your work on the Drive-In when we launch please register your project at: https://www.recdekhouse.com/

& ONE FOR YOUR RECDEK WATCHLIST (GUEST CHOICE! IZZY MANT)

As a comedy about comedy, Hacks could easily have been a niche show that disappeared up its own butt-jokes, appealing only to comedy professionals and comedy nerds. (I'm both, so I was always going to like it) But thanks to its smart, consistently funny scripts, its iconic lead duo, and a surprising dollop of tenderness behind the sass, it's proved itself a bona-fide mainstream hit with wide appeal. Jean Smart, who plays troublemaking comeback comedian Deborah Vance, has just won her fifth Emmy for lead actress in a comedy series for this show. Which is quite a feat, given it had five seasons. Hannah Einbender, as Deborah's Gen Z joke writer Ava Daniels, is one of those bits of casting so perfect you can hardly separate actor from character. Alongside its seriously funny storylines, the show deconstructs joke writing and comedy performance in a way that never feels like a lecture. It speaks to our times, with Deborah and Ava wittily sparring at each other from across the culture-war battle lines. But across its five seasons a bond develops between the pair that gives the show its heart. They repel each other, but they can't resist each other. And if you met either of these very funny, complicated women in real life, you'd do everything you could to become their friend too. Enjoy!

- Izzy

That’s it for this week.

See you soon.
